(portrayed by Cyndi Wang) - Female, 21 years old.  3rd year student at Ding Feng University.  Beloved daughter of the Cheng family. 

            Gentle, beautiful, charming, romantic, considerate, intelligent, understanding…?  Sorry, but Xiao Shi doesn't have any of these qualities!  What she has is courage, persistence, reckless, and a pair of flat feet that are always falling.  Whatever Xiao Shi does is all based on her courage and a mysterious sense of innocence, always foolishly forging forward towards her goal.  Sincerity is the center of her thinking.  She believes that as long as one is sincere and has good faith, then there is no goal that can't be accomplished! 

            Everyone knows that she likes He Rui Zhe and she does nothing to hide her admiration for him!  Even though that she once thought that she and Ah Zhe has had a "sluggish relationship" before and carries the dreadful curse of "not having a relationship that lasts for more than 3 months", but she is still not able to forget about Ah Zhe in her heart.  All along she has not given up hope that Ah Zhe would fall in love with her.

            "Freedom" music group's lead singer, He Qun is a huge idol star who is very different in front of the scene and behind the scene.  In front of the media and the fans, he is cool, a person of few words.  He would hardly reveal a smiling face, does not interact with the fans and does not try to flatter the media.  Still everyone pursues him like crazy causing him to be unable to withstand this harassment.  He Qun, who is always cool in front of the media and the public, is the target of the entire country's female population's infatuation.  

            The real He Qun is a guy who dislikes comparisons and dislikes competitions.  In his point of view, his biggest enemy is himself.  "I only compare myself to myself." is a phrase that he always says.  He only becomes a singer, because of a youthful dream that he has.  He, his younger brother, Ah Zhe, their childhood friend, Rita, and Xiao Rou made a promise to make up the world's best music group when they grow up and sing the songs that they create.  But because of an accident, Xiao Rou was missing and their dream was suspended.  This also caused a rift in his relationship with his younger brother, Ah Zhe.  The reason why He Qun became a singer is because he is still waiting for that chance when he and Ah Zhe would be able to create a music group together.  However, not only will Ah Zhe not forgive He Qun, but he is constantly looking for opportunities to make He Qun experience the feeling of defeat. 

            Always appearing cool in front of everyone, he actually doesn't know that he possesses in him a warm heart.  Until he bumps into Cheng Xiao Shi on the streets, that's when she is able to call forward his warm heart.  Xiao Shi is an unexpected chapter in his life.  He Qun was chased after by the paparazzi.  Xiao Shi was dumped by her boyfriend.  He Qun picked up Xiao Shi on the streets and gave her shelter.  As a result, this is how He Qun and Xiao Shi's life got involved together.  Xiao Shi's sincerity is very natural and not fake at all.  The Cheng family's enthusiasm is very warm and caused He Qun to become very envious for he has never experienced family warmth before.  His relationship with his father, He Meng Yuan, has not been in good standings for a long time.  With his mind deep in political matters, his father has not been able to give He Qun any family warmth.  There are only disputes between the two of them; there isn’t any true communication or exchanges. 

            After meeting Xiao Shi, He Qun still acts cool in front of people, but Xiao Shi gradually influences his outlook in life.  He starts to study his own heart and honestly face and search for his own goal.  He Qun finally discovers that Xiao Shi's place in his heart is already unshakeable.  Yet, He Qun has never admitted that he likes Xiao Shi.  In the end, what method would he use to let Xiao Shi realize his feelings for her?

(portrayed by Gino) - Male, 22 years old.  4th year student at Ding Feng University.  Everyone calls him the young master of Ding Feng.  He Qun's younger brother. 

            He Qun was born in the beginning of the year and Ah Zhe was born at the end of the year which is why they are less than a year in age difference.  Ah Zhe is handsome and fashionable.  His expression is always filled with arrogance and confidence.  His attitude and style of handling things are valiant and overbearing.  He is skilled at using his imposing manners to get his point across which is why he has the nickname of being Ding Feng's young master!  Overbearing but has a kind-hearted nature, Ah Zhe actually looks out for all the students at Ding Feng University.  He believes that since the students support him as the young master then he has the responsibility to protect them.  If there are any outsiders who deliberately come to cause trouble, he would be the first one to step up to teach them a lesson.  He will not allow anyone to bully the students at Ding Feng University.

            Five years ago, his beloved girlfriend, Xiao Rou accidentally fell into the river and disappeared.  Since then, his heart has been filled with hatred.  He believed wholeheartedly that it was He Qun's fault and as a result, a wedge was driven into their relationship.  He even ran away from home because of this matter.  After Xiao Rou's accident, he will not allow anyone to mention Xiao Rou in front of him.  He also did not allow anyone to mention the song, "The North Star's Tear", which he wrote for Xiao Rou.  Ah Zhe's misunderstanding of He Qun turns into wanting He Qun to suffer the pain of losing the one that he loves the most.  As a result, he deliberately plans to challenge He Qun in hopes of striking him down.

            Ah Zhe believes that he will never fall in love with anyone else again.  Originally, he chose to get together with Rita so that he can cause He Qun grief.  However, Rita's true feelings melted Ah Zhe's heart.  From the original feeling of being responsible for Rita, it gradually turns into love.  As for Xiao Shi, Ah Zhe has always known about Xiao Shi's admiration for him but there has never been Xiao Shi in his heart.  He allowed Xiao Shi to deliver lunch for him for three years yet he has never taken one bite. 

            Ah Zhe never imagined that Xiao Shi, who has always shouted that she will only love Ah Zhe, suddenly becomes his elder brother, He Qun's fiancé.  At first, Ah Zhe did not believe it.  However, when he discovers that unconsciously Xiao Shi is frequently taking note of He Qun's feelings, Ah Zhe once again regards He Qun as his opponent.  He officially declares war on He Qun.  From his hatred toward He Qun, their competition on their different music ideas, in the end they are even fighting on the front of love.

(portrayed by Joyce Zhao Hong Qiao) -  Female, 21 years old.  Leader of the Princess Group.  3rd year student at Ding Feng University.  Ah Zhe's current girlfriend.  He Qun's ex-girlfriend.

            Pretty.  The charming Rita is the most fashionable and beautiful princess in Ding Feng University.  Rita is not only beautiful but she has a good personality and is also an important figure on campus.  She is the leader of the Princess Group in Ding Feng and is the person that everyone follows and imitates. 

            Although Rita has a brilliant and catching appearance but she possesses a special background.  Rita's mother was unmarried when she was pregnant with Rita.  Her mother has a strong personality and after giving birth to Rita, Rita's grandmother reprimanded Rita's mother for being a shame to the family.  In her anger, Rita's mother ran away from home.  Even though Rita is brought up by her grandmother but she inherited her mother's strong personality.  In addition to not having a father, this gives rise to Rita's independent personality and attitude.  Her mother's departure from home is Rita's regret.  Rita's biggest wish is to find this mother that she has never laid eyes on and bring her home. 

            Rita is smart and opinionated, honest and straightforward.  She respects her own feelings.  As long as she has a goal, she would strive hard towards achieving that goal.  Of course, she would take responsibility of the decisions that she makes.  She believes that as long as she has tried her best then no matter what the outcome is, she would have no regrets.  For this reason, she can always face things with ease because she doesn't want to regret that she didn't try her best for what she wanted. 

            From the time when Rita was 16 years old, she was He Qun's girlfriend but she understands that the one that she loves the most is Ah Zhe.  In the end, in order to not deceive He Qun anymore, not be sorry for herself, and not regret having confess her feelings to Ah Zhe, who knew that Ah Zhe really accepted her, Rita decided to leave He Qun.  Even though Ah Zhe accepted Rita, making her wish of becoming Ah Zhe's girlfriend come true, but she understands that the most important place in Ah Zhe's heart belongs to Xiao Rou.  Yet she doesn't mind, she feels that there would be a day, when she would be able to take over Xiao Rou's place in Ah Zhe's heart.  However, her relationship with Ah Zhe doesn't go as smooth as it should.  Therefore, when Rita feels depressed, she would still go to find He Qun to complain.  In Rita's heart, He Qun is not only her ex-boyfriend, but he is also a good friend that understands her the most.  Yet, this type of behavior, in the relationship between her and He Qun which seems to have ended, there rise once again waves of ripples… 

(portrayed by Jian Chang) - Male, 50 years old.  Xiao Shi's father.  Smile Pasta's owner. 

            The old fashion Cheng Gang seems to be incompatible with the lively and optimistic Cheng family.  He is stubborn and inflexible.  He always holds a suspicious attitude towards everything.  Being old fashion, Cheng Gang is not able to accept any of the things that the young generation likes.  He can't follow up with the modern times and his way of thinking is still grounded in the old and conservative ways. 

            This type of Cheng Gang should exist in a conservative and normal family but he has a really outgoing and playful father, Cheng Jin and he married an enthusiastic and lively wife, Ma Li.  On top of this, he has a daughter, Xiao Shi who is always getting into trouble.  Every day being in the middle of this modern household, the old fashion Cheng Gang appears to be exceptionally out of place.  Often he would be on the opposing side with his family due to his own principles, but his daughter won't listen to him, his father likes to teach him lessons and even his wife doesn't give him any face.  Although he is Smile Pasta's owner but his status in the Cheng family is actually very low.

            Even though he is not able to act as his will at home but fortunately, Xiao Shi is considerate and understands his heart.  Within the whole family, Xiao Shi is the one that is closest to Cheng Gang.  Father and daughter are often talking privately and secretly, sharing each others secrets.  The matter between Xiao Shi and He Qun, he is the only one who knows that this is all a pretense.  However, this pretense is getting more and more intense and even Cheng Gang can't figure out if it is real or fake.  

(portrayed by Zhao Shun) - Male, 70 years old.  Xiao Shi's grandfather.  Smile Pasta's primary chef.

            Although Cheng Jin is the oldest within the Cheng family, yet his heart is the youngest.  He is lively and carefree, loves excitement and noise.  He is especially interested in any new and modern things and he can easily accept any new ideas from the younger generation.  His thoughts are outgoing and modern.  His actions and words are not proper.  Not only is he easily able to follow the trends of the modern ways but he is brave to pursue that which is fashionable.  Therefore, when he and his son, Cheng Gang stands together, Cheng Jin appears to be even younger than his son.  Cheng Jin is very creative and this creativity is brought out to its fullest when it comes to pasta.  He likes to create new pasta and is even happier to make an interesting name for it.  Every time a special event occurs in the Cheng family, Cheng Jin would show off his skills and present a new pasta dish. 

            Although Cheng Jin seems like a big kid in life, but when he is faced with pasta, he becomes a serious person.  To him, pasta is an art which is worth regarding seriously with one's life.  The only thing that worries him is that he won't be able to find a successor.  Cheng Gang is getting old and Cheng Ming has no interest at all in pasta.  His assistant Lei Long is the only one who is passionate about pasta but he is a big silly guy who has no talent at all.

(portrayed by Wang Juan) - Female, 48 years old.  Xiao Shi's mother.  Cheng Gang's wife.

            If Cheng Gang is the representative for being old fashion, then Cheng Gang's wife, Ma Li would be the leader for being outgoing.  Ma Li is enthusiastic, open-minded, and has a genuine personality.  Moreover she is frank and straightforward.  Even though she isn't consider young anymore, but she is always dressed as if she is 20 years younger.  She is always trying to hold onto her youth.  Whatever the things that the young generation likes, she would like.  Whatever is fashionable with the young generation, she would certainly not be far behind. 

            She is very open-minded with her daughter's teachings.  She is more worried than anyone over the fact that no one wants her daughter, Xiao Shi.  When Xiao Shi spends the night away from home, she would be more excited than anyone else.  She would even teach Xiao Shi many ways of protecting herself. 

            With regards to Xiao Shi, she is extremely satisfied.  She always believes that the daughter that she gave birth to is the best and most lovable girl in the whole world. 

            Ma Li is very clear how Xiao Shi measures up.  When Xiao Shi becomes He Qun's fiancé, Ma Li became extremely happy, shouting that Xiao Shi is very lucky to be able to get together with a guy like that which is something that she had never imagined possible.

(portrayed by Hu Kang Xing) - Male, 26 years old.  Xiao Shi's elder brother.  Salesperson at a large-scale appliance store.

            Cheng Ming is a person who has a little cleverness but not much wisdom.  He likes to make bets but is a sore loser.  If the winning party insists that he accept the penalty, he would display his skills of casting the blame and refuse to yield. 

            He is cunning and likes to criticize for petty reasons.  He always likes to play word games.  It seems like no matter how it is said, he is always right.  Each time that Xiao Shi has a dispute with him, she would always be the one that loses the argument.  Fortunately, there is still Cheng Jin in the Cheng family that would uphold justice, control Cheng Ming and speak up for Xiao Shi.

            Not only this but Cheng Ming likes to make fun of others, especially his only sister, Xiao Shi.  He is always giving Xiao Shi bad ideas and saying that if she follows what he said nothing would go wrong.  Good thing Xiao Shi is not that stupid and listens to what he says because in the end, Cheng Ming's ideas always turn out bad.

(portrayed by Song Zhi Ai) - Female, 24 years old.  Cheng Ming's wife who always causes people to roll their eyes when she talks. 

            People's impression of Qian Hui is that she is simpleminded and quick.  She has a frank personality, speaks fast, and always seems to be in her own world.  As a result, she would always say the wrong things and express the wrong impressions causing those around to sweat for her.  The polite way to express her personality is that she doesn't have a cunning mind.  The impolite way would be that she is totally clueless.  She can never figure out what things can be said and what things can't be said.  What's even more frightening is that she never learns her lessons, throwing those around her into fits. 

            Qian Hui never understands why she is always being yelled at by others.  She feels that what she said is the truth and that there is nothing wrong with it.  Honesty is a virtue, no?  Why is it that when she is honest, it becomes a bad thing?

(portrayed by Wu Zhen Ya) - Male, 25 years old.  Smile Pasta's 2nd chef.  Xiao Shi's most loyal admirer.  He pledges with his life to protect Xiao Shi.

            He has a straightforward personality.  Lei Long, whose whole body is filled with muscles, is Cheng Jin's best assistant at Smile Pasta.  He is talented with his skills on pasta but he has no creativity whatsoever.  Lei Long is madly in love with Xiao Shi and admits that he is Xiao Shi's number one supporter.  Yet, Xiao Shi is not interested in him one bit.  The pain of not being able to get the love of the one that he loves turns Lei Long's power into an explosive force.  Often he is not able to control his own strength and carelessly throws the entire kitchen into chaos, taking his anger out on the things around him.  Therefore, the places where Lei Long appears, one would easily find some trace of destruction. 

            Lei Long hates every guy that comes in contact with Xiao Shi.  Until He Qun's appearance, Lei Long knows that he cannot be compared with He Qun.  He can only give them his blessings but deep in his heart, he still hopes that one day Xiao Shi would leave He Qun so that he can have a chance to become Xiao Shi's boyfriend.  Of course, this small wish of Lei Long's would never be able to come true. 

(portrayed by Shen Meng Sheng) - Male.  He Qun's father.  A very popular and prestigious Parliament Legislative Speaker.

            Born from a family of public officials, He Meng Yuan is the country’s most popular Legislative Speaker.  He loves his people and is serious about his service to them.  He is proper and cautious and is very careful about the actions that he take.  In the family, He Meng Yuan is a strict father and he is always demanding that He Qun follow his orders and arrangements.  In order to prevent the paparazzi from filming and writing scandalous rumors about He Qun, he doesn’t hesitate to demand that He Qun leave the entertainment circle in hopes of protecting He Qun’s reputation.  After He Qun and Xiao Shi spent the night together and the rumor of suspecting Xiao Shi of being pregnant broke out, He Meng Yuan was extremely furious.  He threatened to sever his relationship with He Qun and He Qun was so angry that he immediately ran away from home.  He Meng Yuan appears to be cold but actually, deep within his heart, he is someone who regards relationships and feelings very importantly.  It’s not that he doesn’t love He Qun and Ah Zhe; it’s just that he thought that the best way to love his two sons would be to help them plan out their future.  Yet he neglected the fact that he should get to know his sons better and to respect the decisions that they make on their own.

            He Meng Yuan is extremely disgusted by Xiao Shi.  He believes that if it wasn’t Cheng Xiao Shi, then He Qun would not have done so many outrageous things.  As a result, he does everything in his power to break He Qun and Xiao Shi apart.  However, when real love approaches, it is like that of a rising tide – there is no way to stop it!  Anxious and feeling defeated, He Meng Yuan could only watch as He Qun slowly, step by step, walk down the road that Meng Yuan believes to be wrong.  However, along this road, Xiao Shi’s sincerity and warm heart, not only unknowingly changed He Qun, but it also touched He Meng Yuan.  This is only the beginning point when He Meng Yuan would accept Xiao Shi.  There is still a long road ahead of them!

            Born from a political family, Bi Li Ling is smart and understanding, gentle and rich.  She is great at socializing and is a middle age lady filled with a style of nobility.  She is cautious but occasionally she would have a lovable, humorous side to her, balancing out her moods.  She met He Meng Yuan when she was young and was captivated by his down-to-earth and hard-working attitude.  Even though her family was against their marriage, yet Bi Li Ling still married He Meng Yuan without a care of anything else.

            Not only does she manage the household for her husband but she always helps him with his outside image to the public too.  She is always reminding He Meng Yuan how to interact with the media and how to mold into a Legislative Speaker that the public will love.  Bi Li Ling is just like He Meng Yuan’s publicist.  As long as she is beside He Meng Yuan, then He Meng Yuan would never have to be afraid that he will lose the public’s love.  Bi Li Ling grew up from an upper-class family and is used to the wealthy lifestyle.  She doesn’t understand the common and ordinary life of the people.  After she comes in contact with the lifestyle of the Cheng family, she is attracted by their simplicity, liveliness and intimacy.  Occasionally, she would cause much humor over the difference in the lifestyles of the two families.  She likes Xiao Shi and also likes Ma Li.  Sometimes she would act as the mediator between Cheng Gang and He Meng Yuan.

            Even though Bi Li Ling doesn’t know that Xiao Shi and He Qun are not a real couple but she likes Xiao Shi’s sincerity.  As a result, when He Meng Yuan insists that He Qun and Xiao Shi break up, Bi Li Ling tries her best to think of ways to get them even closer together.  On the road of love for He Qun and Xiao Shi, Bi Li Ling is a character who helps them along!

(portrayed by Di Zhi Jie) - Male. He Qun's manager.

            Vincent is a scheming and experienced manager.  He is arrogant, speaks directly, is efficient in handling the paparazzi and winning over the market.  He deeply understands the existing relationship between an artist and the media.  He also understands how to create topics and make an artist famous.  Under his creation, He Qun becomes the entire country’s super idol star.

            However, Xiao Shi’s appearance is like a time bomb to Vincent.  In order to prevent the media from mistaking that He Qun is dating Rita and Xiao Shi at the same time, he comes up with the plan for He Qun to deny his relationship with Rita and pretend to be engaged to Xiao Shi.  At the time, he was trying to save He Qun’s career crisis but he never imagined the repercussions that develops after this.  However, this mistake seems to have influenced He Qun’s career and family and it also changed He Qun’s life.

            The relationship between Vincent and He Qun is more than manager and artist; it is also a relationship of an elder brother to a younger brother.  There is a lot of understanding between him and He Qun.  He doesn’t need to say much and he would know what He Qun is thinking.  He believed that what happened between He Qun and Xiao Shi is just an accident and that they can just find a way to settle the matter later on, but who knew that He Qun and Xiao Shi’s relationship seems to be becoming more and more of a reality.  Even though Vincent is good at taking care of an artist’s crisis, but to him, the matter between He Qun and Xiao Shi is something that even he has a problem with solving.
