Each
time that you fall in love, how much memories are held within your head?
The taste of a first love always brings along with it a bit of sweetness,
a bit of bitterness. Even if it is buried deep within the deepest
memories, it still makes one incapable of forgetting. If there was a
chance, would you be willing to take the danger, to search for your first
love, and return to the true, genuine feelings of the past?
Du Kai Xiang received his elementary school classmates’
invitation letter for a get-together. Originally, Kai Xiang doesn't have
much interest in these kinds of things. However, his curiosity was raised
by the fact that the classmate that was hosting the event said that maybe
Ju Zi Mei would also participate. The memories of his first love with Ju
Zi Mei seem as if it is slowly coming back to Kai Xiang's head. But what
promises did he make with Ju Zi Mei? Kai Xiang can't remember too clearly
and just felt that there was a fuzzy, distinct type of taste filled with
sweetness and sourness of first love that is floating in toward his heart.
That year, his meeting with Ju Zi Mei, was at 5th grade of that summer...
The scene turns to 13 years ago, the talented Du Kai
Xiang is in 5th grade elementary school. A new transfer student comes to
Kai Xiang's class with the same name as his younger sister - Xiang Yi Qing.
The two always enjoy the cool air underneath the orange tree, which leads
their classmates to always tease and make fun of them - saying the boy
likes the girl. Under the commotion that the classmates are causing, Kai
Xiang was forced to be mischievous and snatching Yi Qing's hat, he bullies
her by tossing it up on the tree to show that he didn't like her. Who knew
that Yi Qing started crying and scared all the classmates into confusion.
Kai Xiang promptly climb on top of the orange tree to get the hat back. In
passing by, he picked a whole hatful of oranges to give to Yi Qing to eat.
But in a state of carelessness, he fell off the tree and broke his leg...
From then on, Kai Xiang and Yi Qing became two peas in
a pod. The classmates even gave her a pet name of Ju Zi Mei or Orange
Girl. The two of them often meet underneath the orange tree. Yi Qing would
peel oranges for Kai Xiang to eat. Kai Xiang would take a candy ring and
propose marriage to Yi Qing. But at that time, did Yi Qing nod her head in
agreement? No matter how much he tried to think, he couldn't remember
it...
The day of the class get-together also happens to be
the day of Mother's Day. So Kai Xiang decided to go back to his hometown,
Yi Lan, to participate in the class get-together. Even though Kai Xiang
wants to see Ju Zi Mei again, but she didn't show up at the get-together.
All those years before, Ju Zi Mei who suddenly disappeared on the eve of
graduation, the only thing that she left behind for Kai Xiang is the
memories of his first love - there was no news on her whatsoever since
then. After departing from the get-together in a hurry, Kai Xiang went to
his mother's tomb to clean up the area. At the cemetery, he coincidentally
met a girl (Luo Xin Lei) that made him sense that she was very similar to
Ju Zi Mei. A girl that had long hair and had a cute appearance as she was
eating an orange, which simply look extremely like the Ju Zi Mei from all
those years ago. Originally, Xiang Hai Wei was accompanying her Mom to Yi
Lan to clean up the tomb area. But living across from Hai Wei, having lost
her parents since she was young, making it a habit of treating Hai Wei as
an older sister, Hai Mom as her own mom, Luo Xin Lei took advantage of a
happy day with no work to drive them in her jeep to the cemetery to clean
up the tomb and have fun in Yi Lan in the passing.
The camera shows the tombs of Du Mom and Xiang Dad who
died in the same year and same day near the 17 year old lake. Meng Xiao Bo
calls out to a girl, Kai Qing, who is 17 years old, at the bank of the
lake. Du Kai Qing was attracted by the scenery of the lake and ran close
to the edge of the lake. Xiao Bo hurriedly pulled her back and told her
the legend of dying for love concerning this 17 year old lake that his
father once told him.
Kai Xiang was disappointed that the only person who
would come to clean his mother's tomb is himself. After returning to the
hometown, no matter how strongly he acts carefreely, his father was still
constantly showing a cold attitude. It made Kai Xiang painfully realize
that he will never be able to find the father that he used to worship.
After receiving the company's urgent phone call, it made Kai Xiang choose
to drive his beloved yellow orange car and return back to Taipei in the
same day without a second thought. Before he left, Du Dad still didn't
open his mouth to detain Kai Xiang. As Kai Xiang was walking out the door,
he discovered the row boat prize cup that his father had discarded. He
couldn't help but think back to the happy scene when he was small, when he
and his Dad participated together in the row boat contest and he becomes
even more dejected.
Returning back to Taipei, Kai Xiang was informed by his
boss that he has to compete with an opponent, Ah Ben, from another group
in the same company on designing manuscripts. Everybody in his group,
deeply believes that Kai Xiang, who has his ideals, would be able to
defeat Ah Ben this time. They all decided to go to the pub and help cheer
Kai Xiang on. At the pub, Kai Xiang surprisingly meets Luo Xin Lei again.
Not being able to help himself, Kai Xiang picked up his courage and opened
his mouth to inquire whether or not Xin Lei graduated from Yi Lan XX
Elementary school? Xin Lei thought that Kai Xiang was just using that as a
pick up line to hook up with her. So in order to promote her beer, she
deliberately didn't deny it and just laughed. This made Kai Xiang thought
that he has finally found Ju Zi Mei and he was excessively happy. It also
made him think of the time when he proposed marriage to Ju Zi Mei, the
reply that she gave… She wished that Kai Xiang can propose marriage to her
in a field full of colocasia antiquorum flowers, only then will she nod
her head in agreement!
After mistaking that Xin Lei is really Ju Zi Mei, Kai
Xiang started becoming the Pub's frequent customer and started caring
about Xin Lei. No matter how he thinks, Kai Xiang cannot figure out how
the quiet Ju Zi Mei of the past, can turn into a dominate young lady in a
Pub. Added on that is that Luo Ji Dong always comes to bother Xin Lei. Kai
Xiang cannot help but misunderstand that it was because Xin Lei has to
raise Ji Dong and that's why she is undertaking this type of job.
Therefore, he is being persistent and enthusiastic in helping Xin Lei to
break away from this type of living! Xin Lei has no other way but is
forced to tell the truth that she is not Ju Zi Mei and asks that Kai Xiang
stop taking care of her. Yet Xin Lei's love for oranges and the well known
feelings that she provokes, still attracts Kai Xiang and makes him
incapable of not caring about her existence.
For the purpose of preparing for his exam that will
enable Kai Xiang to go aboard and study the art of designing flower
gardens and for the purpose of qualifying for the exam that will enable
Hai Wei to be an international tour guide, they both coincidentally met
each other at the literature and English study class. However,
unexpectedly, the two of them are not on good terms with each other. The
first time they met each other they started arguing. When Hai Wei was
going home, she discovered that Kai Xiang was continuously following
behind her. She thought Kai Xiang would go as far as to tracking her down!
Just when she was trying to find a way to lose him, she found out that he
was looking for Xin Lei who lived opposite to her.
From Xin Lei, Hai Wei heard about the process of how
she and Kai Xiang met. She couldn't help but get angry and scold Kai Xiang
for only thinking on a one track mind and trying to teach other people a
lesson. He, who can even mistakes his first love, how will he know that
Xin Lei works at the Pub for the purpose of looking for her first love, a
boyfriend who has a dream to become a bartender. After being scolded by
Hai Wei and hearing about Xin Lei's story, it made Kai Xiang generate even
more feelings for her - envious of her for looking for her first love.
Xin Lei accepted Kai Xiang's apology and also
discovered that Kai Xiang is a good man. The two of them started talking
about each of their first love memories. From this, Xin Lei unexpectedly
found out that this experience seems to be very similar to Hai Wei's
family's background. Out of curiosity, Xin Lei couldn't help but put an
inquiry to Hai Wei regarding Xiang Yi Qing's things. Since the death of
Hai Wei's father, Xiang Mom hated the name Kai Qing and even after that
allowed Xiang Yi Qing to change her name to Xiang Hai Wei. The name of
Xiang Yi Qing became Xiang Mom's taboo words. Hai Wei also treated Xiang
Yi Qing as if she has already disappeared. So she lied to Xin Lei and said
that Xiang Yi Qing is her elder sister who has passed away early on.
However, the candy ring that is hidden in Hai Wei's drawer, appears as if
she purposely wanted to hold onto this part of her memory. Even if Hai Wei
tried her best to pretend to forget her past, but the candy ring
continuously reminds her of the first love and pure genuineness that she
used to have.
Having neglected his relationship with his son and
daughter, Du Dad accidentally passed by the forest and heard familiar
piano sounds come from deep inside the forest. He couldn't refrain from
being frightened and in his confusion, he thought that he saw the shadow
of the dead Du Mom - he still wasn’t able to forgive himself. Du Dad
anxiously makes a move to quickly run away. The scene follows into the
deep forest and it is discovered that the sounds from before came from Kai
Qing. She was the one that is playing on her mother's old piano. With cold
eyes, she looks after the father that was running away. It wasn't until
Xiao Bo was calling out for Kai Qing's name that she came out of the
forest and rode home on a bike with him. The two of them rode on the
bicycle through the open field of Yi Lan rather quickly. In one of their
turns, they got into an accident with a car. At that moment that Du Kai
Qing collided with the car, the scene of when her mother met with a car
accident suddenly flashed through her head.
Because both Xin Lei and Kai Xiang are feeling down
with their emotions, they both established some sort of feelings for each
other and supported each other. Xin Lei originally held on to a thin
thread of hope and always waited for the day that she is to meet with her
first love. She eventually gave up in hopeless and drowned her grieve with
alcohol. Concerned about Xin Lei, Kai Xiang hid in a corner and saw
everything. When he saw how the heartbroken Xin Lei was tormenting
herself, he drag her along with him to Yang Ming Mountain and took her to
a place filled with colocasia antiquorum flowers. Having left Yi Lan to
come to Taipei, Kai Xiang never could figure out why he unknowingly seems
to be so fond of colocasia antiquorum flowers! He rented a piece of land
on Yang Ming Mountain full with colocasia antiquorum flowers. At that day
that he mistakes Xin Lei for being Ju Zi Mei, that's when he remembers
that colocasia antiquorum flowers are something that he and Ju Zi Mei were
connected with in the past. But it's a pity that Ju Zi Mei has passed away
and she will never be able to see this field full of colocasia antiquorum
flowers that she is so fond of.
Xin Lei is touched by Kai Xiang's sentimental feelings
and also the similarity of the ending of their first love due to the
disappearance of their partners. Xin Lei promises Kai Xiang that she will
pull herself together, say goodbye to the past and start all anew again.
When Kai Qing rides the bicycle, she often hums a piece
of music. In order to make Kai Qing happy, Xiao Bo thus memorizes the
melody and runs to the record shop boss to hum it to him to hear. He
manages to buy the cd for this music and is happily looking forward to
giving it to Kai Qing. While listening to the cd, Kai Qing once again
starts remembering the scene of the death of her mother. She remembers
that it was because she was putting up a fuss to get the music score for
this song and in the process caused her Mom to have her accident and her
death. She was so afraid that she was endlessly blaming it all on herself.
Seeing the situation like this, Du Dad cannot bear to see Kai Qing
suffering and blaming herself. He can only express that the person who has
caused Du Mom's death is not Kai Qing and that everything is his fault!
The astounded Kai Qing didn't dare believe it and in his agitation, Du Dad
had a stroke. After seeing her father being so weak from his illness, Kai
Qing let her tears fall for the first time. Du Dad, struggling to waken
under the dark mist of Du Mom's death, caught sight of Kai Qing's tears
and Kai Xiang's worried face when he flew home after hearing the news of
his stroke. Only then did Du Dad discover that if he gives up on his son
and daughter's love, then Du Mom would really not be able to forgive him!
Relying on his will and his vitality, Du Dad once again
stands up and arranges to go boat rowing with Kai Xiang together to review
the memories of the past. Seeing the change in his father, Kai Xiang feels
that it seems as if his father from the past is returning back and that
this family has hope again.
When Hai Wei finds out that Kai Xiang brought Xin Lei
to see the field of colocasia antiquorum flowers that he has planted, even
though she is pleased that he remembers their promise when they were
young, but this past is a shadow in the bottom of Xiang Mom's heart and
also includes the pain of her father's death. Therefore, Hai Wei still
doesn't want to mention it and also didn't want to admit that she is Xiang
Yi Qing. Who knew that secrets couldn't be concealed for long. Xin Lei
unexpectedly discovered the candy ring that Hai Wei has hidden and
discovered to one's surprise that Hai Wei is actually Xiang Yi Qing!
Why did Xiang Hai Wei must conceal this first love? Do
they still feel that their feelings for each other would have a chance to
continue on? Destined to pay for the love of the past generation, would
Kai Xiang and Hai Wei be able to open up the burden of their love and the
original guilts/sins?
